Good morning!

Today, Ms. Prouty is going to come into our classroom and talk about Autism. Coming up at Willowbrook, we have Autism Awareness week and you can participate by donating money to our bake sale! Let’s watch the video below to learn a little bit more about Autism.

Please respond with at least one new thing that you learned about Autism. What are some ways that you can be a good friend and demonstrate our Character Counts characteristics with a person who has Autism?

Spring Break!

spring-break-sunHi third graders!

Welcome back from spring break :) What did you do over spring break? We started to share our stories today, but we could have swapped stories all day if we had the chance. With our blog, now we DO have the chance to keep the conversation going!

Share your stories and adventures from our week apart. I sure know I missed seeing all of your smiling faces each day.

Happy April!

Digital Storytelling Inspired by Dav Pilkey

Good morning, third graders!

Last week, we read “Dogzilla” and “Kat Kong” by Dav Pilkey. We were so inspired by his hilarious fantasy that we decided to make stories of our own! To incorporate digital learning, we made Imovie productions of our own stories. Check them out below!

Immigration

Good afternoon, third grade!

Our latest unit in Social Studies is Immigration. Immigration is the process in which people come to a new country. In class, we learned that most American citizens immigrated at some point to the United States! If you know your family history, share some personal stories of where your family immigrated from!

Happy blogging,
Ms. Safran

SLANT

Penguin Research Skype!

Dear bloggers,

This week we started our Penguin Unit. The students have the opportunity to research a species of Penguins and present it to the class. Tomorrow we have the opportunity to skype with a penguin research scientist who is currently in Antarctica! She is in apart of Antarctica called Cape Royds.

Click on the link to see a street view of Cape Royds.

Today we brainstormed questions that we might want to ask her about life in Antarctica and penguins. What is one question you would like to ask the penguin research scientist?

Ms. Safran

Soda Geysers – Science Club Kid’s Perspective

Good morning, Willowbrook!

Yesterday, in Science Club, we created soda geysers! It was such a fun and messy experiment! For those if you who don’t know, mentos + soda = geyser!

Here is how it works…

“Each Mentos chewy mint has thousands of tiny pits all over the surface. These tiny pits are called nucleation sites – perfect places for carbon dioxide bubbles on the soda to form. As soon as the Mentos hit the soda, bubbles form all over the chewy mints and quickly rise to the surface of the liquid. Couple this with the fact that Mentos are heavy and sink to the bottom of the bottle and you’ve got a double-whammy. When all of the gas is released, it literally pushes all of the liquid up and out of the bottle in an incredible soda blast!” -Steve Spangler

Check out the video of our experiment below!
