As we get ready to kick off Reading and Writing Workshop this week, take some time at home with your families to watch this film, “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.” As you watch, take notice of how Mr. Lessmore’s journey makes you feel. Blog your thoughts and wonderings in the comments section below.
To get you started consider these questions:
- How did Mr. Lessmore feel when he had a book? Why were some images in black and white, and others in color?
- What was Mr. Lessmore writing throughout the film?
- Where did Mr. Lessmore go? How did you feel when he left?
- How did Mr. Lessmore change from the beginning to the end?
- What lesson does this film teach us about reading and writing?
There are so many big ideas wrapped up in this film. Every time I watch I see something new. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Even though they didn’t talk it was still sad. The song was still very entertaneing
The music was a favorite part of mine. You could tell so much just from the changes in music.
the music tells the story itself… i love movies with tornadoes…
I think that the story was very special. It showed a lot of magical things.
I agree
It is really interesting and surprising
What surprised you?
The girl flying in
it was surprising that he got old towards the end… and sad that he had to leave…
the movie was great! it was a little sad too.
Agreed I loved It but it was a pretty sad story but it’s telling the story of his life and how some things aren’t always so good. But I enjoyed the story
really really sad
I think he felt sad to have to leaf
Leaf?
he was sad in the black and white and happy in color.
he was writing music the whole time
I like when she comes flying from the bookloons(balloons).I like how everything around him was books
I also liked that when he came out of the milkey way thin he was upside down and it was really silly how after he turned over his hat landed plop!Right on the head!
it was a great movie but super sad and happy at the same time. The beginning was sad but the end was happy. He changed from happy to sad.
the movie was great… best part that i like is when he’s fixing / caring for the books like a doctor.
That was one of my favorite parts too!
His colors are important because it showed his emotions. He was sad when the tornado came and when he lost his work his colors were black and white. When he saw the library and the books he was happy and colorful.
It was really sad when Morris left the flying books in the library. It was cool how the books could show their feelings by showing pictures. The video was also really weird because the books could fly and a tornado could sweep words and pictures out of a book.
I feel sad becaus of the storm mr Lessmor had
The film taught me that you do not always need words in a movie or film to find out how a person is feeling. In this film I knew Mr.Lessmore was happy or sad because of the music.
Yes!
I liked the movie because even though the man left the books found someone new and didn’t have to be lonely (:
I t was a litte sad now that I watch it a second time. sorry, I have a lot of type-os
I wonder were he goes? The music is very good.
Morris felt very good with the books. Some scenes were b/w because of sadness.
I love how he made the book
I thought it was funny when the books were dancing and one book was playing the piano.
It was amazing how his life changed.
Definitely! All because of books!
My favorite part is when Morris gave books to black and white children and adults then changed them into color.
black/ white images & colors tells the passage of time & technology.
As Mr. Lessmore shown as a young man turned into a wise old man .
I think that this story was peacefull because it has a lot of sweet things like for an exaple the books were said that the man was leaving and in the begining it was sad that the man had to go threw that with the tournato
The movie was sad in the beginning when everyone lost what they cherished, then in the end, Mr. Lessmore was able to finish his diary with the help of the magical books.
