Comparing Communities

Dear bloggers,

Our world is amazing! Each country, state, city, town and community all are made up of people, places to work and things for people to do, but they are all different from each other.  Each community is special because of it’s unique characteristics and the way you feel when you are there.

Compare your community to a place that you have visited in another community that you have been. You can use some of these examples to help you expand your writing. Where was it? What made it different or special? Who was there with you?  What did it look, sound and feel like?

Please use complete sentences, punctuation and think of your senses when writing. Also, remember to think of it as a movie in your head to get all the great details in writing.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Braiman

The Grove

Dear bloggers,

Today we went on a field trip to The Grove.  We learned so many things about the American Indians like how they made food, what games they played and the jewelry they wore.  Compare and contrast American Indian life and our life.  What is the same and what is different? I would like you to think of two ideas that are the same and two ideas that are different.  Remember to write your answer in complete sentences!

After you are done, view our slideshow to see how much fun we had today!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Braiman

Off to a Great Start!

Dear Bloggers,

We have spent the last few weeks getting to know each other and learning about all the fun things we will do in 3rd grade! I am so excited for this school year and I can’t wait to have so much fun and learn so many new things! During the first few weeks, we learned about place value and mental math.  We also started the novel, Because of Winn Dixie and learned the expectations for “Read to Self”, “Read to Someone”,”Work on Writing”, and “Word Work”. We planted during Science and started to learn about our community during Social Studies. Mrs. Levin came to our room and taught us about storytelling and we met our kindergarten reading buddies! Take a look at our slideshow to see all the fun we had during the first week!

What was your favorite activity from the first few weeks?

Sincerely,

Mrs. Braiman

Glen Prairie Station

Dear bloggers,

April 22nd is Earth Day! Today we went to the Glen Prairie Station and learned about recycling and what we can do to help the Earth. We did so many activities! We looked at 9 items and discussed how long they would last in a landfill, we took 8 items and placed them into three containers- recycling, trash, or donations, we did an experiment to see what type of insulation (none, fiberglass, or foam) worked best, we learned about how much electricity really costs, and how much garbage we throw out in a day, a week, or a month.  We learned so much! What are some ideas you have for things you can do at home or at school to help recycle and reduce the amount of trash that gets sent to landfills?

Watch the slideshow below to see all the fun we had at the Glen Prairie Station!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Braiman
