Fall is Here!

Posted in Math, Personal Reflections, Science | 31 Comments »

October is here and so is Fall!  Fall is my favorite season.  I love seeing the leaves change on the trees!

In number corner we talked about pinnate and palmate leaves.  Do you remember the differences?

Are you happy it is Fall?  What is your favorite part about Fall?  Do you miss Summer?  What is your favorite season and why?

Mathematician Greg Tang

On Wednesday Wescott was lucky enough to be visited by author and mathematician Greg Tang.  It was so fun meeting and working with him!  We have been using his math site for awhile now and it was neat being able to work with the person who created it.  Greg Tang shared so many new and interesting ways to think about math and gave us some new strategies to help us when solving math problems.

I learned a neat trick that I’ll remember when I have to multiply numbers by 11!  It was also pretty cool how he was able to solve a complicated addition problem faster than the teachers could on a calculator.  I also can’t wait to read all of the math stories he has written.  I bet they have a lot of neat tricks in them as well!  The group Kakooma game was pretty fun too!

What was something you learned from working with Greg Tang?  What did you find most exciting?  What was your favorite part of the assembly?
