The Grove

Dear 3C,

Today we went on a field trip to The Grove.  We learned about American Indians who lived in this area and how they got and prepared their food,  made jewelry, started fire and the games they played.  I would like you to compare and contrast American Indian life and our life.  What is the same and what is different? Write about two ideas that are the same and two ideas that are different.  Remember to write your answer in complete sentences!

Happy Earth Day!

Dear Bloggers,

Happy Earth Day!  Yesterday we had an assembly where we learned about many of the challenges and problems facing our earth.  Joey Feinstein showed us how what we do and the choices we make effect the earth.  My question for you is, what can you do for our earth.

Think about changes you can make and how they will effect the earth in a positive way.  Please write your response in a paragraph form with a topic sentence and supporting details.  Don’t forget to write in complete sentences, use proper capitalization and punctuation and check your spelling.  Remember, you are the change!

Happy Blogging,

Mrs. Cohen

Chicago Informational Books

Dear Bloggers,

Our class has written fantastic information books about Chicago!  We learned about Chicago’s history, important people and events by reading informational texts.  We looked at how writer’s use non-fiction text features in their books.  At the same time, we were learning to write informational books.

We used what we learned about Chicago and informational writing to create our books.  These books were written with the purpose to teach others about Chicago, using the writing process we learned in writer’s workshop. We made sure to include interesting text features, write strong introductions and great conclusions.  Please click on the link below to read our wonderful, informative books!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cohen

The Great Chicago Fire

Dear Bloggers,

Some people argue that the Great Chicago fire was the worst thing to happen in Chicago’s history, while others argue it was the best thing to happen in Chicago’s history.  What do YOU think?  Was the great Chicago Fire of 1871 the worst or the best thing to happen in Chicago’s history? Why do you think so?  Support your ideas with evidence from the text we read in class.   Remember to use complete sentences, capitalization and punctuation.

American Indian Travel Guides

Our class has worked so hard creating American IndianTravel Guides.  First we worked with Mrs. Sparks to create curiosity questions.  Next, we used books and online sources to research our specific tribes and find important information to answer each of the questions.  We took that information and created travel guides that would be useful to someone coming to visit that tribe and region.  Please be sure to take a look at our awesome work!
