At library this week, the students enjoyed listening to the book When Dinosaurs Came with Everything by Elise Broach and illustrated by David Small. They also diagramed the structure of the story as they learned about the characters, plot, climax, and conclusion of the story.
Summary: Although his mother is a little worried, a young boy is delighted to discover that every shop in town is giving away real dinosaurs to their customers. (From NoveList K-8 Plus)

A Day at Disneyland was the title of our first grade show! We sure did have fun performing for our parents and classmates. What was your favorite part of the show? Which song did you enjoy the most? How did it feel when we performed for the parents and school?
In the story, Clever Jack Takes the Cake, Jack did not have money to buy a birthday gift for the princess. He traded what little he had for ingredients to make her a birthday cake. Unfortunately, as Jack traveled to the castle for the royal birthday party the cake was eaten by blackbirds, a troll, a dancing bear and a castle guard. Nothing was left of the cake when it was Jack’s turn to give his gift. Instead, Jack told the princess the story about what happened to the cake and “a story” turned out to be her favorite gift!
What would you do if you wanted to give someone a gift but you did not have money to buy one? Who would you like to give a gift to and what would it be? Are there other gifts you would like to give?
We read Give Up, Gecko! this week. The main character had to keep on trying. He showed perseverance in completing his task. Was there ever a time that you had to work hard and keep practicing to accomplish a new task?
