Book Chat – When Dinosaurs Came with Everything

when dinosaurs came

At library this week, the students enjoyed listening to the book When Dinosaurs Came with Everything by Elise Broach and illustrated by David Small.  They also diagramed the structure of the story as they learned about the characters, plot, climax, and conclusion of the story.

Summary:  Although his mother is a little worried, a young boy is delighted to discover that every shop in town is giving away real dinosaurs to their customers. (From NoveList K-8 Plus)

Blog Question:  What other things could have been great giveaways? Why?

This past week, we read two books Fred Stays with Me! and Leonardo the Terrible Monster.  Both books deal with the topic of friendship. There are many connections between the two books.

What are the similarities between the two stories and what are the differences?  How do you connect to these stories?

Book Chat of the Month

clever jack takes the cakeIn the story, Clever Jack Takes the Cake, Jack did not have money to buy a birthday gift for the princess. He traded what little he had for ingredients to make her a birthday cake. Unfortunately, as Jack traveled to the castle for the royal birthday party the cake was eaten by blackbirds, a troll, a dancing bear and a castle guard. Nothing was left of the cake when it was Jack’s turn to give his gift. Instead, Jack told the princess the story about what happened to the cake and “a story” turned out to be her favorite gift!

  • What would you do if you wanted to give someone a gift but you did not have money to buy one? Who would you like to give a gift to and what would it be? Are there other gifts you would like to give?
